Hackers steal from Bitcoin ATMs with zero-day bug

Hackers recently targeted the servers of General Bytes, a Bitcoin ATM manufacturer. They utilized a zero-day bug to make themselves the default administrations and ensure funds from multiple ATMs were transferred to their accounts, according to a report by Coin Telegraph.

The hackers allegedly scanned for servers running on TCP ports 7777 or 443 and from there, they added themselves as the default administration on the CAS server. General Bytes has urged customers to not use its Bitcoin ATM servers until it releases patches to fix the vulnerability.

General Bytes owns 8,827 Bitcoin ATMs in 120 countries. It has not released information on funds stolen or how many ATMs were impacted.
